| People who marry in church are
saying - to themselves and to the world at large
- that they wish to ask God's blessing on their
vows and on their relationship. The wedding may
be grand or simple, but at its heart is a desire
to involve God. Christians describe the
marriage service as a Sacrament. This means they
believe that God promises his presence and his
power to the couple as they make their vows to
each other and in their lives together afterwards.
They are opening themselves to the possibility
that their mutual love and faithfulness will be a
picture of God's love and faithfulness to all
people.
As
you consider the possibility of marrying in
church you might begin to feel you would like to
know more about the Christian faith. We should be
happy to talk with you about this is you wish.
May
God bless you in your preparations for you
marriage.

WHAT
DO WE NEED TO DO IF WE PLAN TO MARRY IN DROITWICH?
First of all please get in touch
with the Parish Secretary who will help you with
your initial enquiry and with arranging a date. (See
Contacts). You will need to book the church
well in advance and you will be asked to pay a
deposit to secure your booking. At the same time
we will send you all the information you need to
plan your wedding.
Some months before
the wedding you will need to see the Vicar to
arrange the details required to complete the
preliminaries to your wedding. As a marriage
service carries certain legal responsibilities
you should be certain to discuss these fully in
advance. Your Vicar will be pleased to explain
what you need to do. Of course, you will also
want to talk about the service itself.

WHERE
CAN WE GET MARRIED?
To be
married in any of the four Droitwich parish
churches either you or your partner must live
within the parish boundaries. If you live outside
the parish you can usually only be married in one
of the Droitwich churches if you are a regular
member of the worshipping congregation there and
your name is on the church's formal membership
list, called the Electoral Roll. In exceptional
circumstances however it may be possible to make
special arrangements. Your Vicar can advise you
about this.

WHAT
IF ONE OR BOTH OF US HAS BEEN MARRIED BEFORE?
Under certain circumstances it may
be possible to be remarried in church and you
will need to talk to your Vicar about this before
making any arrangements. You may in any case like
to consider having a Service of Dedication (sometimes
called a Blessing) in church following your civil
marriage in a Regeister Office or elsewhere. Your
Vicar will discuss the options with you and help
you decide the way forward.

WHAT
IF WE PLAN TO MARRY IN CHURCH BUT NOT IN
DROITWICH?
If one of you lives in Droitwich but
you are getting married in your partner's parish
you will need to have your Banns called in
Droitwich. The Parish Secretary will advise you
about arranging this.

HOW
MUCH DOES A WEDDING COST?
This will depend on the arrangements
you choose to make. There are fees for the use of
the church and for the actual service; after that
you decide whether you want to pay for an
organist, choir, bell-ringers and so on. There
are extra charges if you decide to have a video
recording made. We can advise you on the current
fees.

WHEN
ARE WEDDINGS HELD?
We are happy to discuss individual
plans. On weekdays wedding times can often be by
arrangement, but it might help you to know that
on Saturdays weddings are at 12noon, 2pm or 4pm.
We do not conduct weddings on Sundays or on
the Saturday before Easter Day.
