| As the title suggests this Fund holds money given towards the cost of repairing the damage caused by water penetrating the fabric and the prevention of further water penetration so that this does not recur. It will be necessary to carry out tiling and roof work, replace external render and repair stonework to keep water out and install better drainage so that the water is taken well away from the main building. Internal finishes in the Chancel and the adjoining vestry will be replaced and other minor works will be done. The work is currently estimated to cost approximately £118,000 +VAT. This job is an addition to the normal year to year maintenance and in addition we are required to carry out some alterations to the heating fuel oil storage arrangements to comply with new legal requirements. We simply do not have sufficient money to carry out all these works at present but the building will deteriorate if the work is not done soon. We have obtained some grants but have in hand applications for more. There is an expectation by those running grant schemes that church members should contribute significantly so since summer 2005 we have been raising money from the congregation. But we are not there yet. For some while now we have been operating a Churchyard Memorial Fund which holds money given to enhance the churchyard, in memory of loved ones. There is no doubt that the present priority need for money gifts is the eradication of damp work outlined above so we invite and welcome gifts for the Fabric (Eradication of damp in chancel) Fund. Like the Churchyard Memorial Fund the effect is the money will be used strictly for the purpose for which the money was given. We are creating a memorial book at St. Peters which will be a permanent record of the donations the church receives to support its work and enhance the building and surroundings entrusted to us. The book will be displayed in church for parishioners and visitors to see. It is intended there will be a single page to acknowledge each donation with photographs of the repair works. If you wish to make a donation please send a cheque payable to "Droitwich St. Peter DCC" to "The Churchwardens, St. Peters Church, The Parish Centre, St. Andrews Street, Droitwich, WR9 8DY." If you are a UK taxpayer and want the Church to reclaim tax on the donation please note you must have paid an amount of tax which at least equals tax deducted from the donation. When you send your cheque please tell us you are making the gift under the Gift Aid arrangements and give us your full name and address. Gift Aid is very worthwhile as the money given to us is enhanced by about 28%. |
